Top 14 Gluten Free Chain Restaurants Safe For Coeliacs | UK Edition

Finding gluten free restaurants that are safe for coeliacs can be a daunting process. Fortunately, the UK is among one of the best places to cater for people with food allergies due to its strict food laws, making gluten free food fairly easy to find here in the UK.

To make it even easier for you, I have done the research on the best gluten free chain restaurant for you, so that you don't have to.

Cote Brasserie

Accredited by Coeliac UK, Cote Brasserie has a number of gluten free options clearly stated on their menu. The manager will take the gluten free order and the food is identified with a gluten free flag. Cote Brasserie has a variety of sides and mains to choose from and gluten free creme brûlée for dessert.

Bundobust

Bundobust is an Indian street food restaurant and is a great way to try multiple dishes. I usually order between 3-4 dishes depending on how hungry I am. Over half of their menu is gluten free and all of their dishes are vegetarian. My absolute favourites are the onion bhajis, okra fries and dahl with rice.

Pieminister

Why not try a hearty award winning pie at Pieminister? They have a choice of 3 gluten free pies; the Moo pie, the Ranger pie and the vegan option, the Mooless Moo pie. These pies can be enjoyed at the restaurant or in the comfort of your own home as you can find them for sale at larger supermarkets too.

Vurger Co

Vurger Co is a 100% vegan junk food restaurant serving.. you guessed it, vegan burgers. Most of their menu is gluten free so if like me you’re gluten free and vegan, Vurger Co has you covered. The chefs are well clued up on cross contamination, making sure to wipe down surfaces and change gloves between handling different foods.

Wagamama

With a separate gluten free menu, Wagamama has plenty of options to choose from. They take cross contamination seriously, only allow managers to take the gluten free order and the head chef to prepare and cook the food. Surfaces are wiped down and clean cooking utensils/equipment are used for the gluten free food.

Dishoom

Many of the main curry dishes at Dishoom are gluten free and some of the dishes are modified to be safe for people with gluten allergies. The staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable on cross contamination. They will advise on the safest options for people with coeliac disease.

Chiquito

Another Coeliac UK accredited restaurant, Chiquito has an extensive gluten free menu. You can choose from burgers, steaks, tacos or fajitas and they even have a gluten free crumble for dessert.

Carluccio’s

Italian restaurant Carluccio’s has a separate gluten free menu on request. They have a variety of pasta dishes, a risotto and some fresh fish dishes. Although the majority of the desserts are ice cream, they do have a gluten free panna cotta with raspberry coulis, which is what I go for every single time.

TGI Fridays

American diner TGI Fridays offers a wider range of options of gluten free food. They have a separate menu, the manager takes the order and they have strict cross contamination procedures in place. The gluten free menu includes burgers with a gluten free bun, fries cooked in a dedicated gluten free frier, ribs or steak. You will not be short of options here.

The Lounges

The Lounges have become one of my favourite restaurant chains in the UK and here’s why. They have the largest selection of gluten free items I have ever seen in any other chain restaurant, they have restaurants dotted around the UK in most major cities and they take cross contamination very seriously. With separate kitchen equipment, dedicated gluten free fries and excellent service, be sure to check out one of the lounges the next time you’re in the city. Each lounge has a different name depending on the location, but a full list can be found here: https://thelounges.co.uk/

Mowgli

Another Indian restaurant, Mowgli has the perfect balance between elegant/romantic and street food style. Their food comes served in little tiffin boxes which allows you to try a variety of different dishes. Gluten free options are clearly stated on their menu and they even have gluten free ice cream cones for dessert.

Pizza Express

Accredited by Coeliac UK, Pizza Express is one of the only pizzerias that I enjoy as not only do they have a vast gluten free selection, but they also have a lot of vegan options too. They have a dedicated section in their kitchen where they prepare and cook the gluten free food and the gluten free pizzas come uncut so that there’s less risk of cross contamination from shared utensils.

Pho

Another Coeliac UK accredited restaurant, Pho, offers exceptional Vietnamese food. 90% of their menu is gluten free so there’s plenty to choose from and they have a lot of vegan options too. There’s a choice of ramen, fried rice, wok fried noodles or Vietnamese curry. I’ve tried them all, and they're all delicious.

Honest Burger

The majority of the menu at Honest Burger is gluten free. All of the burgers can be adapted with a gluten free bun, they serve the best rosemary salted fries and they even have gluten free onion rings. Their plant based burger is to die for!!
